A. Bierling
Biography
Gerald
has worked as a consultant to R.A.L. Consulting Limited, Strategic
Projections Inc., and Madison Avenue Demographics Group, providing assistance
in the areas of demographic analysis, survey design, statistical data
analysis, and report writing. He has also been a research associate for
Footwork Consulting Ltd. (David K. Foot) for the past decade.
Projects he has worked on include:
· An analysis of human resource needs in the insurance industry for the
Insurance Institute of Canada.
- A projection of the health
care costs associated with physical inactivity for the Fitness Industry
Council of Canada.
- A demographic analysis
of the employment equity program at B.C. Hydro.
- A demographic analysis
of Dofasco's work force based in Hamilton, Ontario.
- An analysis of the demand
for machinery and equipment valuation services and training for the
Appraisal Institute of Canada.
- An examination of labour
market trends, both in Ontario and nationally, for selected construction
trades using the tools of survey research and demographic analysis.
- A demographic analysis
of the impacts of population aging on business development opportunities
in Niagara region.
- A demographic analysis
of work forces in Ontario's chemical industry.
- An analysis of a household
survey on early childhood development, parenting, and child care programs
in Niagara Region.
- A survey of past, current,
and retired members of Carpenters’ Local 27 in Ontario.
- A demographic analysis
of the impacts of demographic trends on the mandated activities and
work force of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
- Demographic projections
of the demand for park visits, fishing licenses, and hunting licenses
in Ontario.
- Demographic projections
of the demand for carpentry apprentices in the Greater Toronto Area.
Gerald Bierling also works
as a Research and Instructional Assistant in the Political Science Department
at McMaster University. He holds a Master’s degree in political science
from McMaster, with specialization in research design, program evaluation,
and Canadian public policy. Gerald also teaches the undergraduate and
graduate research methods/statistics courses in the Political Science
Department at McMaster.
Gerald provides research and
instructional support to faculty and graduate students in the department.
The assistance typically involves data analysis, questionnaire design,
and database management. Recent academic projects include: the impacts
of population ageing on future leisure and recreation trends in North
America, a national survey of Canadian attitudes towards the behaviour
of politicians (where he served as the project manager), a study of provincial
government expenditures and revenues over the past 25 years, and a study
of provincial deputy and assistant deputy ministers.
